Artist Residency in Kanazawa: Study Buddhist Sculpture in a Working Studio

This program is designed for experienced artists and serious learners seeking to deepen their practice.

You will study in a professional, working studio, refining precision carving techniques and mastering the use of traditional Japanese tools.

Sharing Techniques and Underlying Knowledge

In addition to four days of practical instruction per week, we provide access to our studio’s collection of books and archival materials tailored to your specific interests and needs.

Through professional dialogue, we share specialized knowledge that forms the foundation of the craft—such as the stylistic nuances between Buddhist sects and the unique characteristics of different woods.

Our studio offers a practical environment for those who seek to go beyond simple technical training, allowing you to integrate history and expertise to solidify your own artistic expression.
